 rules.

  001.     this blog is private, meaning i only write with mutuals. i am picky with who i follow -- i like to keep a dash of people who i see myself writing with.
if you're planning to break a mutual follow with me, there's no hard feelings! i do prefer that you soft block and don't leave me following you like an idiot, though.
  002.     i am currently working & going to school on top of being chronically ill. i don't really have energy to write every single day unfortunately! i'm online regularly since this is the online community i feel most comfortable in, but there needs to be a mutual understanding that replies will not always come quickly. this is for fun after all, and i don't want to burn myself out on it! i also prioritize replying to actual threads over meme responses.  003.     this blog will be trigger heavy. if you are disturbed by dark themes and triggering topics, this may not be the blog for you. everything will be handled respectfully, however it is up to you to determine for yourself what content is safe for you to consume. posts with triggers in them will be tagged as ' #trigger / '. if you need something specific tagged that i’ve missed, don’t be afraid to shoot me a message or an ask.  004.     i am not comfortable writing with billy hargroves. it's a dynamic for max that i find triggering and i have no desire to explore or "fix" it. i don't mind at all if you write billy or if you write with people who write him, but it's not something i'm interested in myself. max's feelings towards billy are extremely complicated and i take that into account when referencing him in my writing. if you feel you may get offended by max having a negative perception of billy, don't follow me.

  005.     this is a multiverse & multiship blog, however i am very selective with who i ship max with, as that's not the priority for her. i love exploring different relationships and dynamics with characters, whether they're positive or negative. chances are if you have an idea for a dynamic i will want to try it out! however if that's not the case, i ask that you respect that and not try to force it. i'll obviously do the same. if i suggest something that you aren't feeling, please don't hesitate to let me know! i never want to make anyone uncomfortable or feel like i'm forcing anything. we're all just here for a good time.even though i will be writing max as an adult (aged 18+) in a vast majority of threads, there will not be any smut on this blog. i wouldn't feel comfortable considering max is still underage in her source material, so if you're looking for sexually explicit content this is not the blog for you.also, my max is a lesbian. please be respectful of that.  006.     i am no longer duplicate friendly due to previous issues. i will not be following back any max blogs or any multis that have her on the roster (from this blog). i am literally begging for others who write max to be respectful of the work i've put into my portrayal. a lot of time, effort and creativity has gone into making my portrayal unique, so please refrain from using headcanons that i create for your own portrayals or fanfiction.please also refrain from pulling images from my pinterest boards to use for your own graphics.  007.     my carrd was made by solarsources. psd is gentle breeze by stephysource. header and pinned by 4tr0phy. icon border is by f1sts.  008.     hi there!!! i'm phoebe. i'm 27 and live in texas. i can be found here, or at any of my other blogs: getslashed, godclaws, hollowvictory, or eatbitch.

biography.

BOOK ONE: THE PROPHET'S BIRTH.maxine lorraine mayfield was born with all of her mother’s beauty and none of her nature. susan always told her she learned to run before she learned to walk, always chasing chaos at full speed ahead like a tiny redheaded wrecking ball. the earliest days of her childhood were spent in the california sun, climbing trees and scraping her knees until the streetlights came on and it was time to trudge back to the house for dinner. home was messy, but comfortable enough: the arguments between her parents were mostly kept out of max’s line of sight.from the start, she had always been closer to her mother than her father. the fiery spirit of rebellion burned so bright within her that susan didn’t always know how to manage it. she had been looking forward to having a daughter, a sweet baby girl she could raise to have a better life than her own, but max’s bullheaded nature shattered that dream quickly. sam’s solution to his daughter’s rebellion was simple: do nothing. instead of implementing any level of discipline, sam decided to shape max in his own image. while susan dutifully worked service industry jobs to pay the bills, sam was β€˜preparing max for the real world’. before she had even turned ten years old, she could pick locks with her eyes closed, swore like a sailor and watched horror movies like they were sunday morning cartoons. evenings were spent perched on barstools in the local pub, drawing in her notebook or reading comic books while her father drank and chatted with his associates. on the weekends, if she was lucky, he’d let her watch while he meticulously created fake identities to sell to criminals. sometimes people need to disappear. i help them do that.on the first day of first grade, as the children ran wild across the playground, max’s attention was drawn by a boy. huddled under the slide with a spiderman shirt and a tear-stained face was nate walker, a quiet boy with a sweet voice and excellent ideas. in solidarity, max climbed beneath the slide and sat beside him, and just like that max had made her first ever best friend. as the years passed and the kids grew older, their friendship only grew stronger. they learned to skate together, every scraped knee and road rash bonding them like battle scars. summer months were filled with laughter and the sound of hammers and nails, diy bike ramps and science experiments abound.
when sam and susan finally broke the news of their divorce, max wasn’t surprised. she never really figured out what the final straw was, but she knew the split was brutal on all three of them. sam fucked off to los angeles, leaving max and her mother on their own. max’s refusal to act like a lady and susan’s inability to understand her daughter’s decisions made for a tense home. sam came to visit once or twice, and the space between was filled with broken promises. by the time her eleventh birthday came around, max stopped believing him when he said he’d come. sam was a man who was easily bored, and when the lights went down and the music stopped it would always end in heartbreak.

BOOK TWO: THE CITY IS BURNING.max and susan were never on their own for very long. there was a small string of men that came and went after sam left – max didn’t care much for any of them. she hardly even bothered to remember their names, knowing how fleeting these sorts of things were. none of them were ever going to stick around… until neil.with only one income to support the two, it didn’t take very long for them to fall behind on bills. with the possibility of losing their home looming in the near future, neil seemed to be the answer to susan’s wishes: a stable, reliable man who would be able to care for her and her daughter. he wasn’t a particularly warm or kind man, but he offered a certainty that the mayfields desperately needed. he was always home for dinner, didn’t have issues with substances or alcohol, ruffled max’s hair and bought susan flowers.for a brief, bright moment, max was hopeful. she could already imagine being a part of a happy family again, where she could come home to people who loved her. even better, after susan and neil were engaged, max was able to meet her new step brother, billy, as well. she’d always wanted a brother, and her first meeting with billy only heightened her excitement. not only did she have a new brother, she had a cool new brother, with a camaro and an earring and a power to his presence that max was drawn to.nothing stays calm for very long, though: this is max’s life, after all. after the hargrove-mayfield families moved in together, there was a shift in the air. there were lines to be crossed, boundaries to be pushed. the house became a warzone between father and son, and it was all max and susan could do to keep out of the crossfire. try as she might, max could never quite figure out where she stood with billy: one minute they’re bonding over cars and he’s giving max her first cigarette, the next he’s setting a dead cat on fire and cackling at the look of horror on her face. any fragile, positive moment was glass that billy couldn’t help but shatter.his poisoned wellwater didn’t end at the front door of the house. his presence complicated things in max’s life more than she had ever anticipated. her friends slowly but surely stopped coming around, frightened and uncomfortable with billy’s erratic and violent behavior. nate was the one constant. he never blamed max for her step brother’s behavior, and had always offered a safe place for max to land when she needed it.a wild west standoff between the teenager and the twelve year old girl was the catalyst that started the domino cascade. in the dry creek bed where max and nate spent most of their time building skate ramps, billy appeared with that wolfish grin that always meant trouble. cruel digs and jibes about the kids’ relationship pushed max to the edge. there was a moment, hammer gripped in her hand with a white-knuckled grasp, where max genuinely considered swinging it. billy was goading her into it, too: he always loved the things max hated the most about herself. she never had to make the decision to swing or not, though: sweet, loyal nate had intervened despite his shaky voice and small stature.in the end, billy took away nate, too. he never spoke to max again after billy snapped his arm like a twig. max kept waiting for someone to say something, do something, but nobody ever did. she tried to get neil and susan to put a name on the thing, to even acknowledge the reality of what happened, but desperation (or indifference) blinded them to the genuine danger billy’s presence brought.
they didn’t have to say it to know that billy was completely out of control. the move to hawkins was half punishment, half reward: a fresh start in a new town, clear of preconceptions. in another life, the move may have actually done the kids some good, but in this one the scenery change didn’t make the situation any different. in fact, it only exacerbated the issue: billy’s vitriol for max grew as he placed the blame for the move on her.
max wasn’t too fond of the idea of moving, either. she’d even made a break for it a few days before they were scheduled to leave, making it all the way to the bus station before getting nabbed by a policeman and returned home to sulk in peace. although she had no friends left in san diego, arriving in hawkins seemed like dooming herself to loneliness until graduation. she’d never really fit the type of a β€˜girl’s girl’, which made talking to them feel… alien. like they were speaking a foreign language. (not to mention the uncomfortable, excited, nervous flutter she would get in her stomach when a pretty girl smiled her way or leaned so close she could count the freckles on her cheeks.) she quickly resigned herself to the reality of the situation: she would be eating lunch alone for the rest of the year.well…. maybe not alone. the dorks in the ghostbusters costumes were actually pretty funny. she was hesitant at first to make friends – after all, billy was still the same man who broke a child’s arm simply because he could β€” but eventually the loneliness won out. she accepted the olive branch of trick-or-treating, chatting and joking with the boys as they collected candy. it was nice to be a part of something again, but max was quick to pick up on the fact she seemed to be missing pieces of the puzzle.not willing to be halfway part of anything, max decided to remove herself from the group completely. lucas wove her a tale about a girl with telekinesis and a man eating monster with no face, and max… obviously didn’t believe it. who would? it wasn’t until she was face to face with the creatures herself that she realized just how honest he was being. and with his usual nightmarish timing, billy appeared out of the woodwork to ruin max’s life – again. this time, billy didn’t stop at a broken arm. for all the knowledge the boys had about demogorgons, mages and magic, they didn’t know shit about monsters like billy. max had sat back in silence before, and look where it had gotten her. if she didn’t do something, she would watch steve die... so she did something.her rage was righteous as she swung the nail-filled bat over her head: being the one with the power for once was a welcome change of pace. at the very least, billy would have to live with the knowledge that max could have ruined his life. killed him, even. but she didn’t – because she’s not like him.with the horrors over and an uneasy truce in the mayfield-hargrove house, max was free to hang out with the party as much as they wanted. lucas became one of her closest friends, and it seemed normal and natural that their relationship turned into an adolescent romance.

BOOK THREE: THE FALL OF TROY.it’s at the snow ball that jane ives would march up to her, wide-eyed and determined, and practically shove a cup of punch under her nose: a peace offering max hadn’t foreseen. she had heard so much about jane, but they had only ever seen each other once before β€”- and when they had briefly met in the eye of the storm, she hadn’t been the most receptive. max had really tried to hide how utterly crushed she had been by it. ever since she had first heard of the other girl, she had gotten her hopes up: surely the two girls in a group would be friends, right? she was sincerely excited at the prospect of having a female friend, which made the initial snub sting all the more. but the punch that’s being held out insistently speaks to a second chance… and max drinks the whole thing, even though she hates it.before long, the two were best friends. max’s relationship with lucas had begun a cyclical on-again-off-again pattern, and eventually she realized that as much as she loved lucas, she wasn’t in love with him. not like she was with jane. they ended things amicably, and remained close friends. as she continued to adjust to life in indiana, she took the summer before high school to grow without the fear of billy looming behind her.
unfortunately, he was more of a looming threat than ever when he was targeted by a new, more nefarious force, making him a puppet to the evil that sought to destroy hawkins. it nearly succeeded, but in the last moment billy was able to regain some level of autonomy. he sacrificed himself to save jane, and max froze in horror as she watched her stepbrother die a terrible, bloody death, leaving max traumatized and guilt-ridden.
in the months after billy’s death, max isolated herself as much as she could. she stopped talking to her friends around the same time she stopped sleeping in a vain attempt to prevent nightmares. they tried to reach out to her, but she just stopped picking up. their lives would surely be better without her in them, after all: what kind of a person feels relief when their brother dies? and worse than that, she had simply stood there. max took the burden of blame upon herself, and as such she was sent into exile. billy couldn’t punish her, so she’d do it herself. as max faded into the background, neil began picking fights with susan. as far as she knows, he never raised a hand to her mom the way he did to billy, but whatever happened was enough to justify a split. despite billy being buried in hawkins, neil packed his shit and left – just like they all do.on their own once again, max and susan moved into a dinky trailer next door to eddie and wayne munson – the β€˜economical choice’, susan called it. she picked up an extra job and drank herself to sleep. max saw it for what it was: surviving. she picked up the beer cans and put out still-lit cigarettes, laid blankets over her sleeping mother and prayed for the best. with no one paying close attention to her, max’s grades started slipping, and soon she was being forced into meetings once a week with the school counselor. ( fucking awesome. ) in her silence she became more observant, moving through her own life like a tourist.when mutilated bodies began turning up in town, it didn’t take a genius to realize that these were no regular murders: evil had returned to hawkins, and the stakes were higher than ever. forced out of her isolation, the entire group banded together once again to end things once and for all. not everyone would be so lucky to escape this time, though: as though marked by the gods to pay penance for the death of her brother, max was selected as vecna’s final target.
despite the past months where max ruminated on and even hoped for death, when faced with the clock that was running out of time she knew she had to fight. a grim determination grew within her, although she knew the odds weren’t in their favor. as the hours to her doom approached, she wrote goodbye letters to everyone in her life, left under strict instructions to not open them unless she’s gone. a part of her had accepted her inevitable end, but a bigger part of her had found a hope she’d lost a long time ago: max wanted to live. she wanted to fight…. but sometimes the only way to do that is to offer yourself up like a lamb to the slaughter.

BOOK FOUR: CASSANDRA'S CURSE.vecna did not just kill his victims: he consumed them. that’s exactly what he did to max when he martyred her: as the light faded from her eyes it was absorbed into him & his power. she has no clear memories of the sixty seconds she was dead & her ensuing coma, but an icy chill still raises the hair on the back of her neck whenever the red, swirling images intrude into her mind. jane’s revival was a messy, imperfect thing just as much as it was a display of raw power. she was able to physically restart heart & brain functions, but psychically, max would be a bit harder to retrieve.it took time for jane to figure out exactly why her friend was completely absent from the void. weeks were spent hand in unresponsive hand, blood dripping from her nose as she searched. max isn’t sure exactly what was done to exorcize her from vecna, but it worked. eventually, her eyes opened, although her sight was gone. it was here the news was broken to her that vecna had succeeded in his plan: he was defeated now, but the casualty count was astronomical. among the dead was susan mayfield, who did not survive the earthquake that rocked the county when vecna’s ritual was completed.season 5 rewrite here.max stayed in the hospital for a few months as her limbs mended. sam came to visit her once, but it was a painful chat. he couldn’t take care of her properly when she was a normal kid, there’s no way he would be able to take care of an angry, traumatized, disabled teenager. she was on her own.except… she wasn’t, really. jane’s mother and aunt, terry and becky ives, had moved into hawkins to be closer to the girl, and their large loch nora home had enough space for one more. not to mention the fact that it was already wheelchair accessible, thanks to terry. (the chair was temporary, but important.) finally, things seemed… fine. settled. like maybe, just maybe, the people of hawkins would finally be able to breathe.then the visions started.the first time max grew stiff & her eyes rolled back into her head, pure terror struck the people around her. eerily similar to the trance she’d been put into prior to sacrifice, it only made sense to fear the worst. but max’s release wasn’t followed with horror, or even stress: instead , curiosity & confusion . she hadn’t been forced to bear witness to the endless replay of traumatic memories , but rather watched a hazy, dreamlike vision of something yet to happen. she relayed this to the party, shaking it off as an odd, vivid daydream β€”- then two weeks later, it came true.
for months max was afforded brief glimpses into the future. she was even becoming accustomed to it, and trying to establish some sense of control over them. small, goofy experiments took place amongst the friend group, most of them ineffective and less than serious. then came the visions from the past. it started with peeks into moments that had happened while max was in her coma, but after that the timeline becomes scattered. she is frequently shown things from hundreds of years ago to mere months ago, and then events in the future where it’s simply impossible to gauge. there doesn’t seem to be any rhyme or reason to what is shown to her for the most part, but with effort she is able to focus and see specific instances at will.
when max’s soul was pried from vecna’s, it was not a clean break. souls are not like oil and water: they entangle, enmesh, melt and blend together. it was a surgery with a butcher knife in place of a scalpel, a messy hacking removal of something that wasn’t supposed to be there & needed out at all costs. bits and pieces of vecna’s more vulnerable psyche clung to max and her determination, drawn in by the strength and the love that anchored her to life. when she returned to her body, she took those pieces with her β€” and with the evil finally defeated, those pieces settled into their new home & manifested differently as they asasimilated into max.
becoming an oracle hadn’t been on her 1989 bucket list, but stranger things have happened, right?

 verses.

ARC I : I STILL DREAM OF MY CHILDHOOD ROOM.this verse takes place during the canon stranger things timeline up to (and including) season four. in this verse max is aged 15-17. this verse is plotted interactions only, and i am very selective with using it and tend to avoid canon timeline interactions in general as i do not want to affiliate my Max too heavily with the strpc.
please do not ask to write in this verse if you are only asking so you can write against a non-disabled version of max.

ARC II : I'M AFRAID THAT I AM SISYPHUS. I WILL NEVER REST.with the war between dimensions over and the dust settling, it's time for max to focus on healing and recovery. with help from her cousin murphy and a guide dog, she begins to adjusts to the loss of her vision. while she struggles to finish high school, she does eventually get her diploma and attends college, studying law. in this verse max is aged 18-27.

ARC III: I BURIED A HATCHET, IT'S COMING UP LAVENDER.with great determination and years of hard work, max has passed the bar. for several years she worked as a public defender, ultimately moving into the private sector as a very successful (if somewhat notorious) defense attorney. in this verse max is aged 27+.

FEAR STREET: CUT THE HEADLIGHTS, SUMMER'S A KNIFE.after moving to shadyside with her mother, stepfather and stepbrother, the mayfield-hargrove group settled in to their new normal. however, only a few years after their move, billy "snapped" and killed over a dozen people at starcourt mall (including chief hopper, which conveniently opened up a promotion for nick goode). a year later, a shadysider named henry creel was possessed & max became a casualty, dying after her eyes were gouged out and all of her limbs were broken. she was later revived by what hospital workers called a 'one in a million miracle' but what certain people understood to be her best friend, jane. after her brush with death max began having intermittent visions of sarah fier's life, which eventually grew into visions from both the future and past.she is able to accurately foresee the next person to "snap" and how many people will die, but no one ever seems to believe her.

SCREAM/SLASHER: SEE THE CREDITS STRAIGHT THROUGH TO THE END.after a masked killer begins to terrorize the town of hawkins, self-proclaimed horror expert max mayfield finds herself pulled into the middle of the mess when ghostface target and final girl nancy wheeler enlists her expertise in order to take down the villain.
after some sleuthing leads her to a bloodstained mask hidden in her step-brother's things, max is in a race against the clock. her time runs out, though, and she is left for dead while billy rushes to finish what he started. nancy's resourcefulness gives her the upper hand, and our final girl lives to see the end of the movie ---- as does max, who miraculously survives her injuries. (unfortunately, she's also the first to die in the sequel.)

PERCY JACKSON & THE OLYMPIANS: THE GARDEN'S OVERGROWN. I RUN IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD.max is a daughter of apollo, as well as the resident oracle at camp. after an incident with the gorgon stheno took her vision, her father replaced it with a different kind of vision. now she is a long term camp half-blood resident as well as a counselor for divination classes.a more detailed description of this verse will be written soon.

BBC GHOSTS/BUTTON HOUSE: KNOW ITS FOR THE BETTER.
TRIGGER WARNING FOR: drunk driving, domestic violence, family annihilation.
in 1985, billy hargrove passed away in an unfortunate car accident, caused when he lost control of his camaro while speeding on one of the winding backroads of hawkins, indiana. at least, that’s what most people understand the story to be. those who were privy to a little more of the hargrove-mayfield dynamic knew there was more to the story than that. max, ever the escape artist when it came to the tense, violent atmosphere of their home, had pulled yet another disappearing act during a night billy was supposed to be keeping an eye on her. when neil and susan arrived home from their date night and found max missing, a typical scene played out: a few fists were thrown, harsh words imparted, and neil sent his son off to search for max despite knowing he had been drinking beers for the better part of the evening. not long after the teenager’s funeral, neil moves the family as far away as he could to a property in england called button house, which had been placed on the market for cheap after a scout master’s recent gorey death on the property. the family was never seen again.
no one really knows if this was neil’s plan from the beginning, but it certainly happened fast enough for some to consider it. they had only been in button house for a couple of days when the storm finally broke. in passing, neil openly blamed sixteen-year-old max for billy’s death, and she responded in kind by blaming him for sending him after her. he lost his temper has he had so many times before, and as usual susan stepped in to calm him down and shoo max out of the room to keep her from aggravating him further. she left for her room, but couldn’t shake the weird feeling that something was wrong. half an hour later she came back down to find the kitchen completely covered in blood, and her mother lying lifeless on the tile. neil had been smoking a cigarette, still holding the knife he had used to kill susan. the sight of his stepdaughter seemed to wake him up to the reality of the situation, and he made a matter-of-fact decision that she had to be next.
knowing that button house was too isolated from their neighbors to make it without neil catching up to her, max went against every horror movie instinct she had and ran upstairs. neil methodically went room to room, searching for her with a vacant look on his bloody face. when he finally found her, she was hiding in one of the furthest rooms, crying as she tried to dial the police. unfortunately for max, she didn’t know you were supposed to dial 999 in the uk and not 911, so no help would ever arrive for her.
neil left her lifeless body with the knife still in it, in a puddle of blood. an hour and a half later lights & sirens would surround the house, where three bodies lay instead of two. from what max could gather, neil’s soul was immediately dragged away to the depths of hell, which none of the ghosts in the house disagreed with. susan was drawn into the light before she could even scream at the appearance of the specters before her. max, however, didn’t go anywhere. her soul remains at button house…. but don’t worry, she’s in good company.
max's ghostly powers include being able to manipulate radio waves to change channels.

YELLOWJACKETS: WE'RE NOT GOING IN CIRCLES. THE PATH IS A SPIRAL.
TRIGGER WARNING FOR: plane crash, character death, fire. this verse will also contain themes of survival in the wilderness, murder, and cannibalism.
as one of the youngest members on the varsity team , max was a barely 16-year-old sophomore when 1996 nationals rolled around. she had begged & pleaded to be allowed to go, and eventually her mom & step-dad relented with a single caveat: her step-brother, billy, had to accompany her as a chaperone. unfortunately, when the plane went down, he was stuck inside & perished in the fire, screaming for max to save him. max came in handy for first-aid, but she really began to shine months after the crash, after she had nearly succumbed to a mysterious illness with a high fever. eventually she recovered, but the fever had damaged her eyesight. something shifted with her after that & she became sort of a right-hand man to lottie: after all, every god needs a prophet .after the girls were rescued and returned home, max proceeded to go to law school to become a defense attorney, although she changed her plans to go to a different school from tai. her vision never recovered, and even as an adult she would occasionally have moments of foresight.

DEAD BY DAYLIGHT: THE VOID STARES BACK.max is pretty sure she's dead. after all, vecna killed her.... right? her consciousness practically swallowed whole while her body refuses to even go through the motions. dead. she could make her peace with that. so why are her eyes opening? why is she exploring memories that don't belong to her? she pushed through the haze of memories until she finds a familiar one, the first time henry ever laid eyes on her. but something was different about this memory. a deep fog had settled in the distance, practically beckoning. a way out?maybe. but the fog led to might be worse than hawkins -- and that's saying something.

BALDUR'S GATE 3: UNTOUCHABLE, BURNING BRIGHTER THAN THE SUN.a tiefling born and raised in baldur's gate, max was a street urchin of a little kid. raised by a barmaid mother and a guild-affiliated father, max was raised in close proximity with criminals like nine fingers. she was taught her father's skills from a young age, classed into a talented young rogue for as long as she could remember. max was a teenager when she was taken, waking up on the nautiloid with a mind flayer tadpole in her brain.she's quickly taken under shadowheart's wing, and their party slowly grew. eventually, under lae'zel's direction, they arrived at the githyanki creche deep beneath the temple of lathander. while exploring, the party came across a relic that would likely be able to help them: the blood of lathander. knowing she was the quickest of them all, max volunteered herself to steal it from its holding place. however, the moment she touched it, she became trapped behind a barrier of magic, doomed to die for her theft.however, lathander himself was watching. it had been so long since anyone even remotely faithful had entered this temple, and he had witnessed max's bravery and sacrifice on behalf of her friends. instead of letting the magic fry her to a crisp, lathander took pity on her and saved her. against her will, favor was bestowed, and the god of new beginnings granted just that to the young girl.his favor couldn't save her from everything though. the immense light magic took her vision, but she was protected from the crumbling temple. she dug herself out, blind but with the blood of lathander -- and his favor -- in hand.

THE PITT: MY TEARS RICOCHET.i have come up with three verses for the pitt, i am open to creating more. these are just jumping off points for plotting purposes, i am flexible with pretty much everything.option i.after susan, max's mother, married neil, she decided it was time for her to go back to school. neil argued with her over it for ages, feeling disrespected by susan's independence, but ultimately made the decision to let her -- largely in part due to realizing that it would be useful to have a nurse in the house for when he goes too far with billy. so susan went to nursing school, and eventually began working at the pitt. susan often brought max along with her, since she worried about her daughter. max spent a lot of time in the break room, and skateboarding outside in the parking lot.option ii.before dating neil, susan dated dr. robby (or another doctor, this is plot dependent). he and max actually got along pretty well, but something happened between the two adults and after that max never saw any of the people from the pitt again. that is, until she was admitted to the emergency room as a teenager after a suicide attempt nearly succeeded, leading her to lose her vision and have reconstructive surgery on both elbows and one knee. she returns to the hospital frequently for physical therapy and follow up corrective surgeries.option iii.following the events of verse ii, max recovered as much as she could. she never fully regained her vision and her joints would be affected for the rest of her life, but she still made good progress. she ultimately ended up going to school work in psychiatry, and specialized in adolescent (and/or emergency) psych.
